bentART 2013

bentART 2013 blitzes it again

bentART 2013 was a great success. Fifty artists exhibited more than 125 pieces ranging from painting to photography, alternative media and sculpture. We were also visited by the ‘rainbow fairies’ who left their mark on the footpath and roadway outside the hall.

The exhibition continues to expand in terms of numbers of attendees, not just on opening night, but throughout the entire weekend. The show produced a strong commercial result for the artists involved, with almost a third of the works selling during the weekend, or 40 pieces of art, an increase of 42% on what we sold last year.

On behalf of the committee and members, I want to thank our generous sponsors, most returning, but some new. This year’s major sponsors are Bendigo Bank and The Alexandra Hotel. The Silver sponsors are Choice Home Loans, Klipt Kanines, Harmony at Home, Wentworth Falls Animal Hospital, Jenolan Caves, Blue Mountains Limousines and Cafe Off Piste at Leura. As well, we want to thank Rolling Wines for their hospitality sponsorship, and Jenolan Caves, Silk’s Brasserie, Ashcroft’s Restaurant, Yindi Day Spa and The Chalet Guesthouse and Studio for their generous donation of gift vouchers. The Committee asks all members and guests of bentART to consider using the business services offered by our sponsors, in return for their generous support of the GLBTIQ community.

On behalf of the Committee I would also like to thank all those individuals who volunteered for the set up of the exhibition, on opening night, and on the weekend. Without their contribution bentART would not run.

And a big thank you to the 50 artists who entered the exhibition, and congratulations to all our winners.

Finally, I would like to also acknowledge the hard work and creativity of our curators Sophie Seeger and Jane Canfield who again did a fantastic job for us and were a pleasure to work with. Thanks also to our judging panel, comprising Brad Hammond, visual artist and curator for Arts and Health at Orange Health Service NSW, Sarah Gaurich, Exhibitions Manager, Blue Mountains Cultural Centre, and Robin Gurr, long-time art collector and philanthropist who all generously gave of their time to judge the exhibition. A special thank you to Brad for the thoughtful feedback he gave to the winners of the 2013 competition.
